PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Overall the performance went a lot better than expected. I saw a lot of new confidence from some of the young people we have been working with. We start by coming into the room and playing a staged version of "the sun shines on game". Jaden takes a lead part in this particular segment and he really performed to the best of his ability. I felt bad for expecting less but was really pleased to see him off to such a great start. I took part in the staged version of the word association game as someone was absent which focused on Caitlyn who performed really well.
Jaden also performed his rap, he stumbled towards the end but we all clapped and cheered to support him so he didn't seem to be too phased by it. It was amazing to see how he has developed and perform his rap when a few weeks ago he didn't want to even perform in front of us facilitators.
Kai also ended up going up and performing a small part of his rap, this was probably because of how supportive everyone was with Jaden, it hopefully spurred him on to want to go and perform.
Overall, this experience has been very difficult at times but very rewarding. I feel like I have both given and taken a lot from this project and the young people we have worked with have taken something valuable from this project (as have I). There are key qualities you need as a facilitator such as patience, politeness, being able relate, and to not patronise. If you have all these things, working with young people with backgrounds such as these young people have, the work can be extremely rewarding for both parties.
